Pat Cummins Signs Deal In USA
Cricket is rapidly gaining popularity in the United States, with T20 World Cup matches scheduled to be played in New York and Dallas. Australian cricket captain Pat Cummins expressed his optimism for the sport’s future in the U.S. and his desire to be part of its growth.
“MLC is developing at a rapid rate, and the US market potential is huge for cricket,” Cummins said. “While cricket is integral to my involvement, the global network and long-term possibilities offered by the owners specifically, and Silicon Valley more broadly, presented a unique opportunity for me and my life beyond cricket.”
The Major League Cricket (MLC) tournament is set to take place from July 6 to 29 this year, following the World Cup. However, Cummins’ availability for the next season might be affected by a two-Test series in the West Indies scheduled for June and July.
Cummins joins a notable group of Australians participating in the MLC, with batting prodigy Jake Fraser-McGurk set to join him at the San Francisco Unicorns this season. Additionally, the Washington Freedom has signed several high-profile Australian players, including Glenn Maxwell, Travis Head, and Steve Smith.
The MLC has been granted List A status for its second season, meaning it is now recognized as an official T20 league, with matches contributing to official T20 statistics.
