According to sources within the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the incident began when an Egyptian soldier fired at IDF troops operating near a tunnel at the border. The Israeli troops returned fire, leading to the fatality. No Israeli soldiers were injured.

An informed security source told Egyptian AlQahera News that investigative commissions had been formed to examine the incident and to implement measures to prevent future occurrences. The initial investigation suggested that the exchange of fire between Israeli forces and Palestinian terrorists in the area led Egyptian forces to “take protective measures and deal with the source of the fire.”

The source stressed the importance of the international community addressing the potential escalation along the Egyptian border with Gaza and the Philadelphi Corridor, highlighting not only security concerns but also the impact on the flow of humanitarian aid.
